Welcome

Welcome to Huffaker Angus Farms!

Huffaker Angus Farms had its beginning in 1913 when the present farm was purchased by Barton Stony Huffaker. When the farm was purchased, it was located outside Monticello, Kentucky, city limits but today the farm is almost ‘downtown’. Stony Huffaker (as he was called) was a stock trader and bought cattle locally and drove them (from Monticello to Burnside) some twenty miles on foot, put them on a train and transported them to Cincinnati, Ohio, to sell.

After the death of Stony Huffaker in the early 1940s his son, Ernest B. Huffaker, operated the farm. Ernest practiced general farming, raising commercial cattle, tobacco, corn and hogs. In the early 1950s, Ernest bought his first purebred Angus cows in order to improve the quality of his commercial herd. He did throughout his farming life keep a purebred Angus bull.

In 1996 Ernest died and the farm passed to his widow, Lexie, who had been greatly involved with the farm for years. Because of her age she decided to allow her son Don and grandson Mike to operate the farm. In 1998 the decision was made to purchase a few replacement cows and again purebred Angus were chosen. From 1998 until the present there has been a steady progression to Angus cows while maintaining Angus bulls.

During the years from 1998 until 2007 artificial breeding was introduced as well as embryo transplants. In January 2007 much of the herd of Joe Burton and Sons was purchased and now the Huffaker Angus herd is entirely registered except for one crossbred cow that was part of the herd at the time of Ernest’s death.

The goal of Huffaker Angus is to produce quality, useful cows and bulls for the commercial breeder as well as the seedstock breeder.

Huffaker Angus now involves four generations and is definitely a family operation. We invite you to visit any time. If you have questions about what we offer, please contact us.
